STOCKTON cruiserweight Daniel Ammann will take the attitude tomorrow night of the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
The Australian cruiserweight champion will give away nearly 30 kilograms when he faces the 120kg Kiwi Oscar Talemaira at Mayfield Ex-Services Club.It will be Ammann's first fight since May when the southpaw damaged his left hand in a loss to Dominic Vea at Mt Druitt."The Doberman" later had surgery on his hand to repair a torn tendon which kept him from training for three months."My fitness wouldn't be the best. I'm coming off my longest lay-off," Ammann said."But saying that, it is good and should go the six rounds."Ammann has been forced to box the heavyweight Talemaira due to a lack of challengers in Australia.Talemaira's record of three wins and 15 losses does not evoke much fear, but Ammann said he cannot allow the big man to land any major blows."You can't stand still with a bloke that big in front of you," he said."I got to keep busy and throw a lot of punches and use my legs." Ammann will need to look internationally to find any credible cruiserweight competition.Ammann and his trainer, Peter Hallett, have received several offers from Russia, Germany and England, but none have materialised."It's just a matter of getting the right fight and making that step up," Ammann said."I've had a couple of offers that were probably three steps up. I had a look at those fights, but the money probably wasn't good enough to take the risk."Hallett's other national champion, Tui Leveni, will also be in action tomorrow night, against Kiwi Paz Viejo. The light-middleweight from Adamstown is giving away a weight advantage to the super-middleweight Viejo, who is a veteran of 43 fights for 10 wins.
